PUNE: Ranveer Singh from Haryana, a security guard by profession, chose to brave out the pandemic with his family in Pune instead of returning home, to ensure proper education for his children.
The 45-year-old resident of Bhugaon village, in the outskirts of Pune, earns Rs6,000 per month as a security guard. He chose to stay back as he felt better educational facilities in Pune would brighten his children’s futures.
When the going became tough and prospects of education becoming costlier with included expenses of owning and maintaining smart phones for his children to attend online school, Ranvir Singh resorted to working almost round the clock.
When he came to know that schools would conduct online classes, he worked two shifts and took up washing cars to increase his income. He then bought two smart phones, collectively worth Rs22,000 for his children — Arun and Sunayana, studying in the fourth and eleventh standards, respectively. He also has another daughter, Neha, who is currently in the first standard.
While Singh works at a housing society in Bhugaon, Kavita, his wife, worked as a domestic help to make ends meet. The Covid-19-triggered lockdown robbed her of a job and Singh had to pick up the slack for his entire family. “I shall go to any lengths to ensure a better future for my family and children,” he said.
